4.0 TROUBLESHOOTING ASSOCIATECERT
=======================================================================
This section contains resolutions to known error messages and
conflicts. You may also wish to visit the Technical Support section of
the Transcender Web site, http://www.transcender.com, and review the
list of Frequently Asked Questions.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
4.1 You receive an error message stating that required files are
missing or damaged.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
Please be sure that you are not running our product using a Chinese,
Japanese or Korean version of Windows. These Windows versions cannot
be used to run our programs. Also, if you are using Windows 95, make
sure you have the latest version of Windows 95. If these steps do not
work and you received our product on CD-ROM, please call a sales
representative to have them assist you in converting the product to
use a system key instead of security files.
All Windows 95 users must have either Windows 95 OSR2 installed or
have updated an earlier version with Windows 95 Service Pack 1,
the Windows Library Update and Internet Explorer 4.0. To check your
version of Windows 95, right-click on the My Computer desktop icon
and select Properties.
If the version number that you see reads:
4.00.950 - You need to install Service Pack 1,
the Windows Library Update and Internet Explorer 4.0.
4.00.950a - You need to install the Windows Library Update and
Internet Explorer 4.0.
4.00.950B - You have Windows 95 OSR2;
no Windows upgrade is necessary.
The service pack, the library update and Internet Explorer 4.0
are all free from Microsoft. Please install any necessary
Windows updates before attempting to install our products.
If you are installing Internet Explorer 4.0, we recommend
that you do NOT install the Windows Desktop Update, because
Windows 95 seems to behave in a more stable manner
without this feature installed.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
4.2 You receive a Runtime Error 5 message when trying to start the
program.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
Runtime Error 5 is caused by a conflict with a few, non-English
versions of Windows. The Chinese, Japanese and Korean versions of
Windows cannot be used to run our programs. We are not aware of
Runtime Error 5 problems with any other Windows versions at this time.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
4.3 You receive a Wrong Version of Runtime DLL message when trying to
install the product using the Autostart CD installation.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
Please use either My Computer or Windows Explorer to navigate to the
Setup.exe file for the product and double-click this file to start the
installation.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
4.4 You receive a Corrupt Installation Detected message when trying to
install the product.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
The error Corrupt Installation Detected can be received for the
following reasons:
1. The disk is full or is write-protected. If the disk is full, then
remove files to create sufficient space. If the disk is write-
protected, then remove the protection.
2. The installation executable is not the same size as it was when it
was compiled. This can happen if the file was corrupted while the
product was downloaded from the Internet. Please download it again.
If none of these situations apply, then it is possible that the
reason you are receiving this error is because the Microsoft Windows
Ddeml.dll file has been modified on your computer. Please see sections
4.6 or 4.7 for more information.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
4.5 You receive an Insufficient Application Folder Permissions message
when ending an exam.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
This problem is caused by one of the following situations:
1. If you moved any of the product files or the product folder after
you installed them, then you need to use Add/Remove Programs in
Control Panel to uninstall the product. Then, reinstall the product
and select the preferred location during the installation process.
2. Either the product's directory or a file it is trying to write to
in that directory has been made read-only. Remove the read-only
attribute from all files in the product directory and from the
product directory itself. From Windows Explorer or My Computer,
navigate to the product folder. Right-click the folder and select
Properties. Then make sure that Read Only is not selected. You need
to check the attributes of all folders inside the product folder,
the product folder itself and all parent folders.
3. You do not have the proper permissions to write to the directory in
which the product is installed. Acquiring the necessary permissions
would solve this problem.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
4.6 You receive a Ddeml.dll error or an internal error when trying to
install the program on a Windows NT-based computer.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
The reason that you are receiving this error is that the Microsoft
Windows NT Ddeml.dll file has been modified on your computer. To
remedy the problem, you must expand a new copy of the Ddeml.dll file
into your System32 folder. From a DOS prompt, navigate to the I386
folder on the NT installation compact disc and type "expand ddeml.dl_
C:\WinNT\SYSTEM32\ddeml.dll". Be sure to include a space between
"ddeml.dl_" and "C:\"
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
4.7 You receive a Ddeml.dll error or an internal error or Error 298
when trying to install the product on a Windows 9x computer.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
If you are using Windows 95/98, then you should replace the Ddeml.dll
file with the one that can be downloaded from the Transcender Web
site: ftp://ftp.transcender.com/ftp/ddeml.dll. Before you copy this
file onto your system, we recommend that you back up the Ddeml.dll
file on your computer. Then, overwrite the existing file on your
computer with the downloaded file and restart your computer.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
4.8 You receive an I/O (Input/Output) error message when trying to
install the product.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
The most likely cause of this problem is faulty media or a smudged
compact disc. First, try cleaning the disc with a clean, dry, lint-free
cloth. Wipe the disc from the center hole toward the rim. If you still
have problems, please contact our Sales department to replace your
compact disc, or download another copy of the product from our Web site
and then obtain a system key from our Sales department.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
4.9 You receive a Could Not Initialize Installation (CRC) message when
trying to install the product.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
The error message that you are receiving can happen for two reasons:
1. The installation file is corrupt. Please obtain a new copy by
obtaining a new CD or downloading the file again.
2. The Ddeml.dll file has been changed on your system. If the solution
in #1 does not work, then you need to obtain a fresh copy of
Ddeml.dll. Please see sections 4.6 or 4.7 for more information.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
4.10 You receive a Runtime Error 13 message when trying to start the
program.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
Runtime Error 13 is caused by a conflict with some Regional Settings.
We are aware of this problem with the German (Swiss) and the French
(Canadian) Regional Settings. Please set your Regional Settings to
English (US) to solve this problem.
If you received this error and your Regional Settings are not listed
above, then please send an e-mail message to support@transcender.com
and let us know what Regional Settings you were using and what product
you were using. We appreciate your patience as we resolve this problem.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
4.11 You receive an error message when trying to start a saved exam.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
If you purchased the product when it was named CCNA-Cert 1.0a or
AssociateCert 1.0a, but you have updated your program to AssociateCert
2.0, then you will receive an error message when you try to open your
saved exam files that were saved under a previous version. Due to the
changes in content and the redistribution of content, these older
saved exam files are not valid in AssociateCert 2.0. If you wish to
view the saved exams from an older version, then you will have to
uninstall the program and then reinstall the older version of the
program from the original distribution media.
